What is the limit to the number of characters this scanner can pick up from a single barcode?

Well it can at least pick up this barcode 00123-700345000

Does it work with square register?

No it does not. I have tried it in USB mode and Bluetooth mode and square will not acknowledge it

Will this scanner work for scanning tickets for OvationTix?

If it's a barcode, yes it will, but remember it's a wired barcode scanner.
